Critique please

I'm sort of at a standstill at how to improve my artwork. My ports always seem kind of off to me and so does my art. I'm not sure if it's strictly anatomy or if my shading affects it, too. And, my backgrounds are also iffy. >->; They've been like this for a while now, so yeah.

some ports:

annnd lines I couldn't get to look right:

Any redlining or tips would be helpful.

To me, it seems there isn't enough contrast in the shading. I would suggest using either lighter or darker tones, or maybe just experiment with different shading techniques.

I noticed that you're using highlights to shade and I'm here to vouch for the multiply layer! Using shadows brings more depth to the picture and will definitely help with contrast. It would also help to pick a light source because the dodgey looking effects I'm seeing aren't really helping to articulate that.

There are just some examples of what I'm talking about when I mention using multiply!

Thanks. c: I tried out a different shading style and doing the darker shading. haha

I also did more multiply and didn't try to fade it out so much.
