Whats wrong with this background?
«: February 23, 2008, 02:52:43 PM»

I really like how this port is came out, except for the background. Something just really doesn't seem right about it.
Any suggestions or crits?
It's non-remap so color choices aren't a problem.

Is the image 24 bit or is the portrait its self still remappable?

It's 95x95 and it doesn't remap.

Ok! I couldn't tell because it still looked like pixel art.

I can see the "something isn't quite right" on the trees thing.
There are a few things that could possibly be done to make it look "right", whatever that is. :p

One observation is that the trees don't feel in proportion. You've got these really lovely thick trunks but the canopies of the trees (I think that's the term) are very short.

Another thing you could do is do some highlights on areas of the tree mass that are closer to the viewer and darken more heavily areas that are farther away.

You might also be able to shade more intensely the edges of the trees to make them seem a little thinner/more round.

Ooh. Good point with the canopies. o: I didn't think about that. -Scribbles on port-
Thanks for the help. c: I'll try to work on those things.
