if he puts his elbows down the normal or close to normal place it would reach is just above the belly button-
the two sections of the arms should be equal in length

Was going to redline but decided I'd rather keep reading tvtropes. Have this half-assed proportion list instead:

The eyes are in the middle of the head.
The distance between eyes is about one eye's length.
The ears are aligned with the brow and the bottom of the nose.
The corners of the mouth roughly line up with the pupils.
If a line is drawn between the corner of the nose and the pupil, the point to which it extends marks the arch of the eyebrow.
The point at which the jaw begins to turn aligns with the bottom of the lower teeth.
The neck ends about 1/3 of the way between the chin and the nipples.
The shoulders are generally between 3 heads wide and 2 heads wide. Thinner shoulders appear more feminine.
The forearm ends at the bottom of the ribcage.
The navel is also around the bottom of the ribcage; it is lower in women than men.
Although it's constantly said, a woman's hips are very rarely actually wider than her shoulders.
The wrists end at the crotch, and the tips of the fingers reach mid-thigh.
The length of the foot is equal to the distance between the inner elbow and the wrist.
The length of the hand (from the bottom of the palm to the tip of the middle finger) is equal to the distance between the hairline and the chin.

There are a lot more I can't remember off the top of my head. See the book recommendations in my sig (principally, Loomis and Bridgman. Bridgman Bridgman Bridgman)
