Shading help, suggestions?
«: January 30, 2010, 01:25:57 PM»
I need help shading a port I am making. It is my 6th port I have ever done. I have everything done except his torso and chest. I'm only going to show a remapped version to prevent theft(hopefully).

Suggestions? If anyone wants to give it a go at helping me actually finish this I am sure I can find a GD or two.

I think before anybody can help you have to tell us where your light source is. :(

its from behind him, kinda silhouetting him. Hence the pillow like shading on his arm.  Hope it helps!

Behind him? If it's behind him then there shouldn't be much highlight at all on the front of his body.  Light around the edges of his body, yes, but other than that the front of his body should be dark.

I'm going to go ahead and use myself as an example here: this is an example of backlighting.

Notice how the brightest highlights are around the edge of the character's silhouette? For that specific portrait, there was some light bouncing back onto the character's front/face since the light source was so strong, thus why there's still some definition in the "shadows"

I hope that helps some.
